Geoguessr
What is GeoGuessr?
GeoGuessr is a geography game where you are dropped into a random location that you can explore via Google Street View.
You must guess where in the world you are based on clues like signs, architecture, and other clues in the environment.
The closer your guess is to the actual location, the more points you are awarded.
Thoughts on gameplay
Geoguessr offers multiple game modes, but typically, the gameplay is an interesting mix of trying to pick up vibes (e.g. what does this place feel like) and trying to find clues (e.g. what street signs can I find).
The game works well both solo and with friends. As a multiplayer experience, it can be enjoyed as a collaborative or competitive experience, which is nice.
One thing Geoguessr really gets right is the core game UI, which is super intuitive to navigate and makes it easy to explore your in-game surroundings.
What makes it fun
Geoguessr is fun for a lot of reasons: it's fun to explore different parts of the world, there is a nice mix of action (clicking around for clues) and thoughtfulness (what vibe is this place giving off), and it accommodates different game types smoothly.
Something I particularly appreciate about Geoguessr is that there are multiple ways to be good at the game. You can click around fast, hunting for street signs or other obvious clues that reveal the location. But you could also guess the location based on road markings, vegetation, architecture, and so many other tells. Obviously, strong players consider all of these hints to some degree.
More than any other game I've player, Geoguessr captures the fun of travel, which is a really nice experience. It's a very popular game for a reason, and if you haven't tried it yet, you should definitely take it for a spin.
