Letter Boxed
What is Letter Boxed?
Letter Boxed is a daily word puzzle from the New York Times.
You form a sequence of words using letters arranged around the edges of a square.
Each word must start with the final letter of the previous word, and letters from the same box-edge can't be used one after another.
The goal is to use all the letters around the board in as few words as possible.
Thoughts on gameplay
Letter Boxed tests word knowledge, planning, and creativity.
Submitted words must be deliberate and well-planned in order to complete the puzzle in just a few guesses.
What makes it fun
Letter Boxed is fun because it takes the tried-and-true "come up with a word given constraints" mechanic, but requires more planning and thoughtfulness than simply mashing in words.
Visually, Letter Boxed is pretty and intuitive to pick up and play. I appreciate the design affordances that help new users pick up the game without having to read the instructions.
Overall, this is a very elegant and fun word game – highly recommend!
