What is Strands?

Strands is a daily word search puzzle from the New York Times. You uncover hidden words within a grid by tracing connected letters.

All of the words fit a shared theme, and one special word, the spangram, spans the board and ties the theme together.

Thoughts on gameplay

Strands is part word search, part logic puzzle, with a bit more emphasis on the word search aspect.

It plays best as a casual experience. The UI is super straightforward, and the games is on the easy side (which sometimes can be nice).

What makes it fun

Strands is fun because it combines the familiar, nostalgic experience of a word search with a logic game. It has a satisfying UI, too.

More experienced players may enjoy playing without using hints, which makes a significantly harder, and in my opinion more interesting, gameplay experience.
