What is Spelling Bee?

Spelling Bee is a daily word puzzle from the NYT where you try to come up with as many words from 7 letters as possible.

Each word must contain the golden center letter.

Thoughts on gameplay

Spelling Bee games typically start with an early burst of obvious words, followed by slower, more deliberate probing gameplay as you try to figure out the remaining words.

Progress often comes from shifting your perspective, noticing a new pattern, and reordering letters mentally.

The game rewards persistence as much as it does vocabulary.

What makes it fun

Spelling Bee is fun because it asks very little of its players: you play until you're satisfied.

But for me, I'm not satisfied until I've reached "Genius" status, so it's really a game about persistence. By that definition, victories are satisfying, because they're usually fairly hard-won.
